What is Beauty Sleep?
Beauty Sleep is the good rest our body takes. All of us are aware of importance of exercise and nutrition for maintaining health and beauty. Do you know a sound sleep is the most important of all the things? A sound sleep, like all good things bestowed on us by nature without any cost, is a blessing for us. No beauty treatment can give our skin that much glow, which a sweet sleep offers. None of the beauty cream, facials or makeup can give fresh and rejuvenated look provided by the beauty sleep.
Amount of Sleep needed
While we are sleeping, our conscious mind stops working and nervous system reduces its activity. It is the time when body rests and gets opportunity to repair itself. Most of the nourishing creams are advised to be used before bed for this reason only. According to experts, an adult needs about eight hours of sleep at night to be full of energy and alertness. This is the average amount of sleep required normally though it can vary according to different people, so you can identify your sleep and wake up pattern.
Results of sleeping less
Lack of sleep means dry skin and growing old very quickly. If you do not get enough beauty sleep, you can face many tizzy conditions like lusterless mane, puffy and bloodshot eyes, under eye dark circles, headaches, irritation, insomnia, blotchy skin with pale complexion and above all lacking zeal to move on. Skin renews itself while you are in deep sleep and this is the most vital part of any beauty treatment.
Also another important fact about sleep is that beauty sleep reduces Cortisol, the stress hormone. Cortisol level increase when we have sleep deficiency. As it controls our hunger, we feel hungry when we are not and this increase our blood sugar level and insulin. The final result of this is disturbing our metabolism. How can the beauty be preserved when we do not have right metabolism. Actually sleeping well induces weight loss.
Reasons for not getting Beauty Sleep:
There may be various reasons for not getting enough sleep required by our body.
- Daily stress and tension can be one such factor.
- Big change in track of your life.
- If you eat late in night and eat heavy stuff near bedtime.
- Even watching TV up to late night or working on computer.
- Heavy intake of beverages like tea or coffee keeps you awake.
- Mattresses may not be in right condition, may be too soft or too hard.
- Women may have many other reasons, which keeps them away from sound sleep; small babies waking up at night, aging parents and early morning wake up for household chores.
So how to avoid all these concerns or at least minimize to get good hours sleep?
Tips for getting enough beauty Sleep:
- In this direction, self-discipline is of utmost importance. Do not overstress your body that it reaches alarming stage of insomnia. To relieve stress, you can try meditation and stress busting exercises.
- Having sleep routine is very important, so rearrange your bedtime schedule.
- Do not take tea or coffee two hours before bedtime and also restrict your daytime intake to at most 5 or 6 cups.
- Se the best beddings for yourself because kind of sleep you have will decide course of your coming day. Never economize on that; use cotton sheets and pillows should offer enough support to your head.
- Wear loose cotton nightdresses while in bed.
- Prepare yourself to sleep by letting you have half an hour. Go through the chores like bathing, drinking warm milk, brushing your teeth and make it a point to cleanse your face daily with a cleanser.
- Rewind all the pleasant day’s happenings in your mind; listen to light music.
- Do not exercise vigorously before bedtime instead; go for a mild walk after dinner.
- Avoid smoking and drinking alcohol.
- Bedroom lights should be minimized, keep it noise free and cool.
- Keep TV and computers away from bedroom and use bed only for sleeping.
Although bedtime snacks are not advisable, you can have this light snack, which will help with your insomnia. It’s a fruit salad, full of vitamins. All you need are apples, papaya, bananas, honey, pineapple and slivered almonds. Just pour honey over small cut pieces of these fruits and have party!
