Tooth Whitening: Vital for Health and Beauty
White teeth catch the attraction of the people you are talking to. They also tell about hygiene and teeth care. Everybody likes to have wide and white smile. Discolored, yellow teeth can mar your whole personality and beauty. Our teeth get patchy, pigmented and yellow either by eating food which is not good for the health of teeth or by not taking proper care of teeth. Teeth Whitening is a clinical technique used by the dentists. But now it is used in clinical dentistry also.
Causes of Discoloration of teeth
Teeth get discolored and yellow by many reasons. Let us look into some of them.
- Too much intake of tea and coffee
- Drinking red wine
- Taking other foods which have persistent pigments
- Smoking is another cause which makes teeth extremely yellow
- Chewing tobacco, Beetle leaves
- Some medicines can also cause patches in teeth. Like if children are given tetracycline in teeth development age, their teeth will become permanently yellow in adulthood
- Another important fact is, deciduous teeth of child are whiter than the adult. This happens because of the mineral structure of teeth because absorbing power of enamel reduces.
Ways to keep teeth white:
- Most of the toothpaste has gentle and polishing chemical agents to remove surface stains.
- Rinsing or brushing teeth just after drinking or eating any stain causing edibles or beverages.
- Avoid eating or drinking such beverages, which cause stain.
- You should brush your teeth with proper technique with the help of soft bristled toothbrush
- By drinking large amount of water, you can keep your skin hydrated and it removes plaque from teeth.
- In your daily diet, do not forget to include fibrous and green vegetables to keep your teeth white and free of bacteria.
- To prevent yellowing of teeth, eat apple, sprouts, guava, carrot, sugarcane, and cucumber.
You should avoid:
- Very hot and very cold drinks
- Fingernails should not be used to remove stains from teeth. It will scratch the teeth and plaque will get deposit in that. It will worsen the situation.
- Using any thing containing vitamin C on teeth will reduce the calcium and make it more prone to teeth decay and yellowing.
- Avoid smoking
- Avoid excess drinking of carbonated drinks
Home remedies for teeth Whitening
- Sodium Bicarbonate is very good for teeth. Use it regularly every morning as toothpowder. Mineral content of teeth is replenished and it helps to regain the whiteness.
- You can use a paste of half-teaspoon baking soda and 1-2 drops of hydrogen peroxide for two days in a week for bleaching teeth. It may irritate your gums a little but it won’t harm your teeth.
- Rub orange peels on teeth directly on teeth every night to keep them white.
- Mix half-teaspoon baking soda, a pinch of table salt and half teaspoon vinegar and make a paste. It removes all the stains and makes them white. It makes them bacteria free.
- One pinch of iodine rich salt with one-teaspoon baking soda. It acts like natural whitening agent.
- You can brush your teeth with Sage leaves. It will make teeth pearly white.
- Brush with Charcoal ashes mixed with toothpaste for about ten minutes. There is powerful stain remover in crystal base chemical.
- Babul is used for teeth whitening as disposable toothbrush. Babul contains tannin, which increases the whiteness of teeth.
- Another herbal remedy is using holy basil (Tulsa) for teeth whitening. First dry the leaves holy basil in sun and make a powder of them and use as toothpowder. It helps remove various teeth and gum problems. It increases overall hygiene of the teeth.
- Another traditional herbal remedy is use of Margosa (Neem). Neem twigs are used as toothbrush. Its oil has astringent and antiseptic properties. It helps kill bacteria and fight bad breath.
