Although eyebrow waxing is more effective and long-lasting way to shape eyebrows than tweezing or threading, but there are few disadvantages also.
Pain occurred in removing the hair by eyebrow waxing is the biggest detriment.
As whole bunch of hair is removed at once rather than pulling one hair at a time, it causes great pain. Along with removing hair, uppermost skin layer also gets removed. This is extremely painful for the people who have never experienced the waxing before.
But you can overcome the pain easily and quickly and the results are far better than other methods of eyebrow shaping. When you choose eyebrow waxing, first get the proper information about the wax used and check for any allergic reaction it may cause to your skin. Also it is important to know proper use to avoid any mishap.
Procedure of Eyebrow Waxing
Performing eyebrow waxing in the mirror can be the tricky business. It is better to use the salon services for eyebrow waxing as they have specialists to take care if anything goes wrong. Spreading warm and soft wax over the eyebrow hair does eyebrow waxing. When the wax gets cool, it is removed quickly to pull out unwanted hair. Working with hot wax over skin to remove hair needs expertise and experience of years. Especially, eyebrow skin is a sensitive area to work with at home. Still, you can learn eyebrow waxing by practice.
Steps for Eyebrow Waxing
- First step is to prepare the eyebrow area. To clean any dirt, oil or makeup, wash the eyebrow area, as wax does not adhere properly over greasy skin.
- Apply ice or astringent to numb the skin cells so that it would be less painful.
- Determine the desired and proper shape of eyebrow by looking into the mirror and using a white eyebrow pencil. Find the proper arc of eyebrow. Start of the eyebrow should be in straight line with nostril. Middle of the eyebrow is just above the iris, when looking straight. End of the eyebrow is at diagonal line from nostril, mid of mouth and other end of the eye. You can use eyebrow stencil also to find the even shape.
- Now heat the wax to a desired temperature for the best results. While using hot wax near the eye area, be extra careful. Do not over heat it and prevent it from spilling into eyes, as it can be dangerous to eyes.
- To find the natural arc of the eyebrows and direction of hair growth, comb the eyebrows with an eyebrow brush or toothbrush.
- You can take the help of toothpick or any pointed tip object to separate the unwanted hairline.
- Now it is time to apply wax. To avoid spilling and dripping, take little wax at a time at spatula.
- It should be applied in the direction of hair growth and remove hair in small quantity at a time to avoid too much removing of hair.
- Now stick a linen strip to the applied wax and press for few minutes to let the wax adhere properly.
- Remove the strip quickly, pulling with a sudden jerk in the opposite direction of growth of hair.
- Repeat this procedure until you get desired results.
- Clean any leftover wax from the skin as it can clog pores.
- Do not apply anything like lotions, makeup, and sunscreens, bleaching creams or any chemical at the waxed area for some hours. Let the skin heal from any redness and puffiness as top layer of skin gets removed in waxing. For any allergic reaction, you can consult physician.
Precaution: If you have extremely sensitive skin or you cannot bear the pain, do not choose eye waxing as the method of hair removal from eyebrows. Also if you have sunburns, cuts, ingrown hairs, you should avoid waxing as it aggravate the pain.
