Prepare the Eyelid: The first step is to keep the eyelid free from any grease otherwise eye shadow will get settled into the eyelid creases.  To make the eyelid oil-free, apply an eye shadow base, which is called primer.

Using Eyeliner:  If you want a black, brown or gray smoky eyes look, you can achieve by applying eyeliner of that color on the upper lash line. Apply thick eyeliner at the center of lash line. You can apply purple, green or blue eyeliner for a jewel-toned look of eyes.

Working with Lower lashes: On the lower lash line, you should apply light colored eyeliner. The main trick here is to smudge it well. You can do smudging better by using an eye shadow.
Applying Base Color: The most vital part of creating smoky eyes look, is to pair light base with a dark hue. For example, you can use for base, cream shade. Apply a light eye shadow color from the base of eyelid to the brow bone.

Blending of colors: After applying light base and darker eyeliner color, you are ready for a smoky effect. Now it’s time to apply a darker eye shadow shade. With the help of an eye shadow brush, start blending the colors.  Begin from the lash line and blend in upward movement.

Applying Mascara: In the last, apply mascara to give thickness to your lashes. But before applying mascara, do not forget to curl the lashes, as it will give wider look to eyes.
