Once the cuticle is roughed out, it cannot be replaced back. In this way inner cortex fibers come out. Once a hair strand get split end, it can unravel up to an inch up wards or even more. This leads to unmanageable and frizzy hairs. You can observe that one single hair can split into 2 or 3 strands. Reasons for getting split ends:
There are many factors, which lead to split ends in hair. If you avoid these causes, you can prevent formation of split ends and your hair will be healthier.

The one of the most important reason of getting split ends is the dry condition of hairs. Hair can be brittle and can be dry naturally. Other reasons for dryness in hair is the excessive use of heat treatments like use of straightening irons, curling irons, hair dryers and other heating tools. Fine and soft hair is more damaged by the heating treatments.

Excessive use of chemicals on hairs is also a cause of split ends. Especially, when protective measures are not taken care of with use of chemicals. Natural moisture and protective coating of hair is removed by use of chemicals like strengtheners, chemical relaxers, dyes and other products and this increase the chance of getting splits.

Other reasons are simple to avoid like vigorous brushing of hair, especially towards scalp and physical stress. Tying hair in tight braids or using metal and rubber accessories are also some causes for split ends.

How To Remove Split Ends:
Once you get split ends, you can remove them only by regular hair trimming. There are some conditioning products, which claim to cure split ends, but what they actually do is temporarily bind the hair together. Trimming of hair is the last resort and after trimming hair grow naturally as before. When you are trimming, make sure to cut hair up to half an inch to avoid the upward splitting of hair. Trimming should be done regularly every 4 to 6 weeks.

For trimming the split ends, take a pair of scissors and take a small section of hairs. Now twist hair gently downwards. Split ends stick out of the twisted hair. Now cut these carefully. Repeat this procedure for all the hair.
