Tackling Acne Prone Skin

Acne prone skin can have blackheads, pimple, whiteheads, redness, enlarged pores and excessive oils. Inflammation and irritation also characterize acne prone skin. Acne is common skin disorder, which generally starts at the time of puberty. Acne condition is genetically determined and hormonal activity triggers it. Acne formation is influenced by three factors of the skin. In an acne prone skin, there is overabundance of surface skin cells and is called hyperkeratinization. Excess oil (Sebum) is produced in oil-producing glands due to over activity of androgen hormones. Bacteria, which cause acne, get mixed with sebum and they block the follicle of hairs on skin from where oil secretion from skin takes place generally. It leads to inflammation and irritation.

How to deal with Acne

Acne is not curable but you can manage and control them. You can treat acne with careful and timely approach. The best approach to tackle acne is to clean the existing acne and protect your skin from any future breakouts.  Acne prone skin is a sensitive skin, so treat it gently. Do not rub and scrub it harshly. The oil blocked below the skin surface cause the break out of pimple. You cannot clean it by vigorous scrubbing.

Forehead, chins, nose together make the T-zone on the face, and is an area, more prone to pimples as it has more oil-producing glands. Wash your face with a mild soap and warm water at least twice a day and pat dry it with soft towel. People with oily hair, should wash them daily. Your doctor may prescribe you some topical ointments to be applied on the spots and in more serious cases; he may prescribe oral medicines also.

Prevention of Acne

- Wash you face with warm water and mild soap, especially made for acne prone skin. Limit washing of face just twice a day. Use circular motion to massage your skin. Over washing is not recommended as it may lead to more production of sebum. After washing, you can apply some medicated moisturizer, which helps controlling oil and bacteria.
- Do not scratch pimples as it may penetrate deep into the skin, causing infection and swelling; even lead to scarring.
- Do not touch your face with fingers repeatedly. It increases infection due to spread of bacteria. Always wash your hands first before touching your face for any treatment.
- To take care of acne body, avoid wearing tight clothes and the things like caps, scarves etc which gather oil and dirt.
- Always use good quality makeup and throw away old makeup.
- Avoid excess exposure to sun as it may lead to excess production of sebum.
