Chemical peeling is one of the popular anti aging treatments. It fights skin aging effectively. Chemical peeling is the earliest anti aging treatment. It is successful in versatile conditions. Chemical peeling is generally performed at face, neck and arms. Chemical peeling is in practice for last 50 years. There are different kinds of chemical peeling available. Skin is a dynamic organ, which grows, repairs, regenerates itself. Old cells on the upper most layer of the skin slough off regularly and are replaced by new cells coming from the basal layer of the skin. It is a continuous process. Procedure of Chemical peeling accelerates the exfoliation using a chemical agent. During this procedure, a chemical solution is applied over the skin and it causes blisters of skin and it gets peeled off. Skin after treatment is temporarily sensitive to sun and smoother than old skin.

Benefit of Chemical Peeling: In the process of aging, skin gets fine lines and wrinkles due to exposure to sun and hereditary factors. Chemical peeling is a useful technique to treat these fine lines and wrinkles under eyes and around mouth. This process helps to reduce or even eliminate these fine lines. Chemical peeling is also used to treat mild scars, some acne forms. Generally the fair skinned people with light hairs are the most preferred for chemical peeling. For darker people, type of skin problems decides the utility of chemical peeling.

Procedure of Chemical Peeling:
Procedure of chemical peeling is performed by dermosurgeons and they instruct patients to discontinue certain medications. Applying certain topical medicines and washing the skin with antiseptic soap day before peeling prepare skin. At the time of treatment excess oils on the skin are cleaned. Proper care is taken to protect the eyes and hair. Chemical solution is applied on small areas on the skin. After blistering, new skin cells start appearing. The application of chemical agent produces warm or hot sensation for few minutes and then a stinging sensation.

Types Of Chemical Peeling


Let us see different types of chemical peeling, which differ according to the chemical agent used.
1. Alphahydroxy Acids (AHAs): These are the mildest and the gentlest form of chemical peel formulations. Several treatments are needed to have the desired effect. These formulas act on the superficial layer of the skin and are beneficial for eliminating fine lines, acne, uneven pigmentation and dry areas.
2. Trichloroacetic Acids (TCAs): These are the stronger peeling agents, used to peel the skin from neck and other body areas. It removes superficial blemishes, pigment problems and wrinkles. Several sittings of the treatment are required for longer effects.
3. Chemical Facial Peels b-LIFTx: This is used to smoothening of slight imperfection on skin and fine lines. The chemical used is the new formulation of salicylic acid. It removes outer layer of dead cells and stimulates growth of new and healthy skin cells. Also patient does not feel much distress during the procedure. It takes short time to complete.

4. Phenol: This is the strongest chemical peel is used to remove deep wrinkles and strong lines on the face, sun damaged skin. Dark skinned people are not recommended for this type of peel because it lightens the peeled area drastically. It takes several months to recover. Heart patients are also not advised this treatment. It needs medication for pain treatment.

After Effects of Chemical peeling: Proper care of skin is to be taken after chemical peeling to avoid discoloration of skin.  It causes sunburn like reaction on the skin. Depending upon the type of chemical peeling, you can feel redness and then scaling, lasting up to seven days. Blisters formed because of medium or deep peeling, take a period of 14 days to peel off. Sometimes bandages are placed in stronger peels for the effectiveness of the treatment. It is a safe procedure if done by skilled professional.
