Combination Skin: Care Tips

Combination skin is part oily and part dry. This means that skin is some oily parts and some dry parts. This type of skin is most common and has to be treated for both skin types i.e. oily and dry. T-zone on the face, which is formed by forehead, nose and chin, has concentration of oily skin. Cheeks may go dry.  This type of skin has even, smooth texture and healthy tone. T-zone look shiny and prone to blackheads and whiteheads. When you wash your skin, you feel tightness and dryness in some areas.  Combination skin is a strong skin type, which do not develop fine and wrinkles early. There are many quality products available in the market to tackle combination skin.

To find out the extent of oiliness or dryness on the skin, you have to find out the width of T-Zone. If you have drier forehead than nose and chin then you have a normal-to Combination skin. If you have active oil-zone across the forehead, you have an oily-to combination skin.

Skincare routine for combination skin

You will need two types of masks to deal meet the demands of two skin types.
In a combination skin, T-Zone has to be dealt more carefully because of more active sebaceous activity. It needs more care then drier areas. You will need mild, gentle cleansers and moisturizers.

You can use deep pore cleansers to clean the pores in T-Zone. Also, use of antibacterial soap will be beneficial in summers to control the bacteria. You can look for an oil inhibiting moisturizer. It works excellently by hydrating dry patches on the face and still do not make oily areas worse. For more hydration, go for lotions having silicone oils. These lotions moisturize enough without extra oiliness.

On the T-Zone, use of mild toner is helpful to check oil secreting from pores but there is no need to apply it on dry areas. Use different type s of masks over oily area and dry area. On oily areas, apply oil-absorbing facial mask. On dry areas apply oatmeal paste. Apply them for 5-10 minutes and wash with warm water. Apply a moisturizer having antioxidants, emollients, water binding agents and improves the function of skin. At night, apply a nourishing cream designed for combination skin.

Avoid the following if you have Combination Skin:

Combination skin has tow opposing demands, oily and dry. Avoid the following actions to prevent problems.

Do not over wash your skin as it makes dry areas of skin, drier and removes oil from oily areas. It will act as stimulant for sebaceous glands to produce more oil.

Avoid mixing ingredients of different skincare products. Instead use products designed to care for combination skin. Avoid using thick moisturizers for dry areas. Use only light moisturizers, which do not block the skin pores.

Diet for Combination Skin

For a combination skin to be healthy, eat a healthy and balanced diet. You should take proper supplements for a salubrious complexion. It takes time for the results to appear on skin as new cells take three weeks to replace old ones. To promote the skin healing and collagen repair, you need to take vitamins A, C and E , zinc and selenium, which have essential anti oxidants. To combat dryness, prevent moisture loss and to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, Omega-3 fatty acids are must.

Care Tips for Combination Skin

• Before using foundation, do not forget to apply moisturizer or serum on the dry areas of the face.
• You should apply skin care products a containing AHA, which are derived from fruits and milk. These aim to normalize the skin.
• Oil-absorbing mask and makeup should be applied on oily areas only to control the shine.
• Always use sunscreen with minimum SPF 15.
• Always keep the skin clean with a non0oily cleanser.
• Avoid alcohol-based toners for dry patches on skin.
• You can use tea tree oil on the T-Zone to reduce redness and bacteria in pores.
• Do not use leave-in conditioners as they tend to block pores of already oily forehead.
• If you have a combination to oil skin, you should focus on control of oil. So look for products, which control oiliness but are not drying on dry areas.
• After using pore strips, apply tea tree oil to your nose. It will reduce redness and cut bacteria levels in the pores.
• Avoid leave-in hair conditioners. Ingredients in these block the forehead\'s pores, making already greasy skin worse.
• You may need to avoid rich moisturizers on your cheeks, but you shouldn\'t skip them on the delicate skin around your eyes.
• Oil is secreted by sebaceous glands in your skin. These glands are more numerous and active around the T-zone area. Pores in this skin area are larger to accommodate the extra oil produced.
• Large pores and extra oil can spell trouble. Large pores become catch areas for dirt and dead skin cells. When the sebaceous glands secrete oil, it\'s caught in the large pores and mixes with the dead skin cells and dirt, forming blemishes.
• If you have combination to oily skin it\'s best to find skin care products which focus on oil control but aren\'t too drying.

Combination skin can be a tricky to treat. You can have two types of skin conditions at the same time. Your cheeks may be dry, but your T-zone – the "T" formed by your forehead, nose and chin – is oily. The T-zone area has more sebaceous oil glands than other parts of the face. The pores in this area are also larger, in order to accommodate the large flow of oil produced. Or maybe your skin is normal most of the time, but you get occasional breakouts.
