Dry Skin: Care Tips
Causes and symptoms of Dry Skin
Causes: Dry skin has lack of sebum. It also has inability to retain moisture. There is need to apply moisturizer over dry skin after washing otherwise it feels tight and uncomfortable. Some factors make it drier like usage of soap, heating, over washing and due to some illness. It is more visible in older people as they lose the moisture and oil glands of skin with increase of age. Dry skin is a common phenomenon, especially in winters because of chilly dry air. It can become severe and can result in dermatitis. People with dry skin should take proper care of their skin to avoid problems later. Also it is very important to take anti aging treatment for dry skin. Poor diet is also one of the factors, which lead to dry skin condition. Genetic factor is also important cause for dry skin.
Symptoms: There are many symptoms associated with dry skin. You can easily identify dry skin by symptoms like scaling, tightness especially after bathing or swimming, skin looks dehydrated, rough. Person with dry skin feels itching. There are cracks and fine lines in the skin. This type of skin shows the sign of aging very fast.
Caring For Dry skin: Dry skin is usually sensitive and best approach to tackle dry skin is to use skin care products, containing natural hypoallergenic ingredients. To deal with dry skin, there is need of regular routine without any ignorance.
- Moisturizing: Dry skin lacks ability to retain moisture. Moisturizing it by applying moisturizer is a must. Moisturizers help reduce the loss of water from outer layer of skin, epidermis. It replaces the lost moisture and help water to stay in the skin with the help of water binding ingredients like glycerin. They smoothens the skin by shrinking the pores. It prevents further dryness and forms a barrier against air to strip moisture from skin.
- Avoid over washing of skin as it strips skin off essential oils. Do not take long baths. Avoid hot water; instead use lukewarm water for bathing. Do not rub your skin, pat dry it and instantly moisturize it when the skin is still damp.
- Drinking plenty of water plays important role in hydrating your skin and maintaining the desired moisture level.
- Use only mild and creamy cleansers for cleanse the skin.
- After shower, apply pure coconut oil, shea butter or cocoa butter. They contain essential oils, vitamins A, C and E. They deeply moisturize, heal and protect the skin from aging.
- Avoid using tap water for dry skin; instead use mineral water for face. Deposits in tap water are too drying on the skin.
- Before going to bed, after cleansing, apply good quality nourishing cream on the face to help the skin to repair effectively.
- Washing sodas and powders are highly alkaline and drying on the skin, so avoid touching them.
Cleanser for Dry Skin: Apply this cleanser every morning before taking bath. Take one egg, one tbsp. Orange juice, one tsp olive oil and few drops of rose water and few drops of limejuice. Beat the egg and mix all the ingredients and blend well. Apply this mixture well over face and neck and leave it for 15 minutes. Then wash it with lukewarm water. This lotion cleanses your skin deeply as well as it provides essential nutrients also.
Mask for dry skin: It is a wonderful mask for dry skin. You can find all the ingredients in your kitchen easily. Take one egg, one tsp honey, ½ tsp olive oil and few drops of rose water. Beat the egg and mix all the ingredients and blend them carefully. Apply this over the face and neck and leave it for 20 minutes and wash it lukewarm water. After removing the mask apply moisturizer.
Diet for dry Skin: Eat a balanced diet containing fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains and seeds. Try eating more of raw food. Take proteins from vegetable sources. Eat vegetables, which are orange and yellow in color as they contain beta-carotenes, which is an antioxidant. Avoid taking fried foods, soft drinks, animal fats, chocolates, potato chips, refined sugar etc.
