Any skin problem may not have fatal conditions but may be equally irritating for the person. Apart from reflecting the health of a person, skin also tells about the mental condition of a person; if a person is happy, her skin will glow and if she has a sad mood, skin will look dull. There are few basics, you should know, if you want to take care of the skin. It does not take much time to take care of skin; just you should have healthy living style and little patience. Healthy skin is the inherent part of person’s beauty.
Taking care of health of skin includes eating healthy diet, proper cleansing of skin, moisturizing, sun protection and exercising. To follow a skin care regime, you should know your skin type. You can have oily skin, normal skin, dry skin or combination skin. Oily skin looks shiny, greasy and is more prone to acne. Dry skin looks dull and feels tight on washing. Normal skin is neither too oily nor dry. It looks soft, supple and even. Combination skin has some oily parts and some of the dry patches on the skin.
Factors causing Unhealthy Skin: There may be external factors like exposure to damage causing UV rays, air pollution and dirt. Other factors, which cause harm to skin, are drying air of air conditioning, not taking adequate sleep, smoking and taking stress.
Internal factors, which cause damage to the skin, are not taking proper diet. Diet lacking in minerals, vitamins and other nutrients is not adequate for healthy skin. Not drinking adequate water is a cause of dehydration of skin. Taking too much of junk food and alcohol, inhibit the skin rejuvenation process.
Healthy Skin Care: There are two part of skin care to tackle external and internal factors. Skin care should be generalized as part of healthy living and other is the localized care.
Localized Skin care means having proper routine of cleansing, toning and moisturizing.
Cleansing: Clean your skin, twice a day to remove any dirt and extra oil deposited on the skin. You can use cleanser according to your skin type. If you have dry skin, do not use soap to wash your skin, rather use creamy cleanser, which do not have drying effect on the skin. If you have oily skin, wash with a non-oily cleanser.
Toning: After cleansing it is essential to tone or freshen the skin with a toner or astringent. For dry skin, do not use an alcohol-based toner. For oily skin, you can use astringent. Toners remove the last traces of dirt and cleansers, left over the skin. Toners also tighten the skin pores.
Moisturizing: After cleansing and toning, moisturizing is another essential part of skin care. Here also, you have to find skin type. For oily skin, use oil-free moisturizer and for dry skin, use a thick and oil-based moisturizer. Moisturizers work in dual way by trapping the moisture of skin and also replacing the lost water of the skin.
Generalized Care of Skin includes eating balanced diet, protecting from sunrays and exercising.
Sun Protection: Whenever you go out in open, whether rain or shine, you should apply a sun screen lotion having minimum SPF 15 to protect your skin from the damaging effect of the sun rays. It also protects the skin from the pollutant6s in the air.
Eating a Balanced Diet: Above all the localized skin care, eating a healthy diet is the most important for the healthy skin. You should eat a diet, which contains proper nutrients necessary for the skin. Your food should include lots of fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains. You should take food containing antioxidants, vitamins A, C, and E, proteins, minerals like zinc and selenium. Also your food should contain omega-3 fatty acids.
