Dry skin has a low level of sebum and can be prone to sensitivity. The skin has a parched look caused by its inability to retain moisture. It usually feels “tight” and uncomfortable after washing unless some type of moisturizer or skin cream is applied. Chapping and cracking are signs of extremely dry, dehydrated skin.

Although you can’t make your dry skin to start producing needed oils, you can still do a lot. One of the most important things is to stop the moisture loss and by doing so, efficiently stop too soon wrinkling.

Dry Skin Remedies

Prepare a fine mixture by adding 1 egg yolk, 1 teaspoon of orange juice,1 teaspoon of olive oil, few drops of rose water and some drops of lime juice. Apply this well prepared mixture on the face in the morning 15 minutes before taking bath. This is very useful home remedy for dry skin.

Olive oil can also be used on the scalp as a remedy for extremely dry skin and hair. Avoid products containing drying agents like alcohol, clay and glycerin in your dry skin care. Certain herb teas work as an internal remedy for dry skin. Use one teaspoon of the dried herb to one cup of boiling water. Remove from heat and let steep for 5 minute.

Make sure the moisture in your indoor air is replenished – bowls or towels soaked in water set on radiators, simmering tea kettles, a vaporizer, houseplants, or a spritzer bottle filled with water for a quick pick up.

Avoid alkaline and glycerine based soaps, instead use cold cream or vegetable oil as a face cleaner followed by a vinegar rinse (1 tablespoon cider vinegar mixed to a quart of warm water) instead of an alcohol based toner which will dry the skin more.

Make a puree of 1 banana and 1 papaya, peach or avacado. Apply to skin. Leave on for at least 20 minutes then rinse with warm water, followed by a moisturizer of natural margarine or natural vegetable oil.

A face pack made of fruits rich in vitamins and water can have a good effect on the dry skin and useful in skin care. Some of the fruits that can be used are papaya, peach, and banana. Mashed avocado can also be applied to the skin for a glowing effect. A mild lotion or moisturizer can follow these face packs, to retain the moisture produced by the face pack. It is advised to use oil-based lotions in such instances. Moisture has to be applied with upward circular motion always.

Avocado oil is also best suited for dry skin remedy. In spite of adding more taste to your food, it is also used to treat dry skin problems like eczema. You can directly apply it on the dried area of your skin for 5 minutes before you take bath, to avoid dryness.
