In the winter season, the hair becomes dry due to cold winds and indoor heating. Thus, it’s very important that we take proper care of our hair during winters to prevent them from damage.

It’s much easier to maintain short hair, but if you wish to have long, healthy & good-looking hair then you should be prepared to put in a certain amount of time & effort in their nourishment.

Hair Care in Winter

Strawberry Winter Care

To make this natural recipe, you require: one cup crushed strawberries, half cup crushed rosemary, and one-tablespoon vinegar.

Mix the ingredients in a bowl and apply it to your hair. Cover your hair with a plastic wrap.

Either blow dry your hair, or sit in the sun, allowing the pack to dry.
After about 20 minutes, wash your hair. You can use this pack on colored hair

Wash your hair less frequently
. Daily washing can have a very drying effect so try washing your hair every other day and use a good quality shampoo (not a harsh shampoo) that is suitable for your hair type and a good hair conditioner. A final rinse in cold water can add shine.

Never brush your hair when it is wet as this can cause damage to the hair.
Don’t ever leave the house with wet hair. Let your hair dry naturally in a warm environment.

Light finishers or detanglers seal are designed to seal in moisture and have no buildup. They are good for those with fine hair or for use in the summer.

Medium-weight conditioners help hold in water. Be sure to look for a product that is silicone-based.

Intensive moisturizers are good for processed or textured hair because they penetrate the hair shaft for deep conditioning and leave it soft.

Don’t let static drive you nuts - Static can be a big problem in winter and may make it difficult to style your hair. However, you can still manage your hair well if you spray a little amount of hair spray on your hairbrush and brush it from top to bottom immediately after you finish styling your hair. Winter is also the time when you get a lot of dandruff, so use a good dandruff shampoo before those flaky scales start developing on your scalp. Using a good quality conditioner is also important during this season to keep your hair soft and healthy.

Reduce the use of hairdryers - Hairdryers rob the natural moisture from your hair leaving hair dry and may even damage hair cuticles. If you are running short of time and need to use hairdryer, make sure that you use the ‘cool’ setting. This will minimize the damage caused to hair due to regular usage of hairdryers. Like hairdryers, the use of curling irons must also be limited during this season.

Apply hair serum

You may also apply hair serum on your hair. Naturally produced sebum in the sebaceous glands under the scalp, nourishes the scalp and hair. But in winter season your hair needs external serum treatment. Apply the serum on the hair that nourishes the hair. Take two to three drops of the serum readily available in market, and apply on each strand when the hair is wet, slightly blow-dry the hair.
