Home Based Sunburn Treatment
Potatoes can be used to relieve the pain from the sunburn. Take 2 potatoes and wash them well. Cut them into tiny chunks and place them into a blender. Liquefy the potatoes. If they are looking dry, add a little bit of water. Pat the areas with the potato juice. Wait until dry and then take a cool shower.
For mild sunburn, cool compresses with equal parts of milk and water may suffice. You may also use cold compresses with Burow solution. You can buy this at a drugstore. Dissolve 1 packet in 1 pint of water. Soak gauze or a soft clean cloth in it. Gently wring out the cloth and apply to the sunburned area for 15-20 minutes. Change or refresh the cloth and solution every 2-3 hours.
Green tea also proves to be helpful in case of a sunburn or sun protection. To prepare it, make a pot of tean and bring it to boil. Then add a teaspoon of green tea into the pot. Cover it and leave it for 5 minutes. Then add equal amount of cold water in it. Soak a soft cloth into the cool tea and put in on the area for 5 to 10minutes.
Dip some gauze into milk and apply it to your sunburned skin. The tannic acid in the tea draws the burn out of the skin and heals it. After just one application, most sunburns are no longer painful and are much less red. However, this treatment will act on the pain but may not prevent peeling.
There are also many sprays and lotions that you can put on the affected areas. The good thing about these medications is that they can be bought over the counter, and they are usually what doctors recommend anyhow. You should look for the lotion that contains aloe vera. This will be sure to speed up the healing process, while also making your skin feel much better.
